When to book operator training
Book training when you have a new team member, a second shift starting up, or a press that has been moved, stored for a while, or connected into a different workshop. If you are working from Midrand, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town or Bloemfontein, we can help on site or guide you by phone support where that is the quickest option.
Training is also a good idea after a power event, controller change, element replacement or when jobs are coming out unevenly. A short session often prevents wasted garments, poor transfers and unnecessary wear on the press.
- New operator joining the team
- Fresh installation or first-time setup
- Unclear heat, pressure or timer settings
- Moves between workshop spaces or branches
- Ongoing quality issues on transfers or T-shirts
What the training session covers
We keep the session practical and focused on the equipment in front of you. The aim is to help your operator set up correctly, understand the controls and work confidently with the materials you use every day.
- Press start-up and shutdown checks
- Setting temperature and confirming actual heat
- Pressure adjustment for different substrates
- Timing, dwell and repeat consistency
- Pad condition, cover care and cleaning
- Basic fault spotting before a job goes wrong
Where needed, we also explain how to handle load-shedding related interruptions, because heat presses do not like being switched on and off without a proper reset. That kind of care saves elements and controllers over time.
How to request training from FlatPress
Use the enquiry form on our contact page and give us a few clear details. The more specific you are, the easier it is for us to prepare the right trainer, spares and time slot for your workshop.
- Your town or area, for example Midrand, East Rand or West Rand
- The press type and how many units need attention
- Whether this is new setup training or refresher training
- Any faults, uneven heat or transfer problems you have seen
- The preferred date and whether the session is on site or remote
Once we have the details, our team will advise on the best next step and confirm what needs to be checked before the training begins.
On site training for Gauteng and nationwide
Our Midrand base supports customers across Gauteng and beyond, with courier back-up for spare parts and loan unit support where needed. For workshops in Johannesburg, Pretoria, the East Rand, the West Rand and nearby industrial areas, on site training is often the easiest option because we can work with your actual machine and materials.
For customers in Durban, Cape Town, Bloemfontein and other centres nationwide, we can arrange support around your installation and give practical guidance that fits your production schedule. If your team is small, one focused session is usually enough to get the basics right.
What happens during the visit or session
We begin with a quick condition check so we know what the press is doing before training starts. That includes temperature readings, pressure feel, element response and the condition of the pad and covering. If something is out of spec, we explain it clearly and sort the next step before the operator starts learning bad habits.
- Confirm machine condition before use
- Show correct transfer placement and loading
- Demonstrate safe closing and opening practice
- Test a sample job and review the result
- Leave notes on settings your team can keep at hand
This approach works well for garment decorators because it keeps the training tied to real production, not just theory. A good operator can spot trouble early and keep the presses earning.
After training: support, spares and follow-up
Training does not end when the session ends. If your team later needs help with temperature checks, pressure adjustments, controller repairs or element replacements, FlatPress can step in with support and parts. We also assist with preventive servicing so the press stays dependable through busy seasons and power interruptions.
If a fault appears after training, send the details through the enquiry form and tell us what changed. Sometimes it is a simple setting issue, other times a worn part or a line problem. Either way, it is better to catch it early rather than lose a batch of shirts.
Our team includes Mandla van Rensburg, Ntombifuthi Xaba, Riaan Ferreira, Kelebogile Mabena, Ridwaan Peters, Nandi Dlamini and Willem Botha, so training requests are handled by people who know the equipment and the day-to-day pressures of South African print work.
